SITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION - PLEASE BEAR WITH ME
Hello,
My seventh Great-Grandfather was RALF JELLIS of Steppingley, who was born about 1620 and died in Steppingley, in 1709; he was buried in Millbrook on the 21st September of that year.

RALF JELLIS married MARY PEACH on the 24th April 1648 in Millbrook; she was the daughter of MARTIN PEACH (1600-1657) & MARY BUTLER (d.1670) who were married on the 9th of December 1627. MARY had a brother called JOHN PEACH.

RALF & MARY had five children: 3 boys & 2 girls.

This is where this story starts...

This project is based on my Uncle Ron's research; I have a copy of part of his project, entitled "The Jellis Family of Flitwick" *, which made me want to draw up the Family Tree.  After having done so, I decided it might be worth trying to trace the family further back; I managed to trace back to RALF  - this is the result.

I have managed to couple together around 670 people from Ralf & Mary down; a family that has spread from the lower midlands of England to as far away as Australia, Tasmania & Thailand.

For example:
THOMAS JELLIS (1824-1891), a son of my 3rd Great-grandfather, his wife, MARIA SWALES and their first two children, Thomas George & Rebecca, emigrated to Australia around 1851, but before the census of that year in England; their first home was a tent by a creek and they eventually settled in Kew, Melbourne.

THOMAS's son, THOMAS GEORGE JELLIS (1849-1916), founded Jellis Bakeries Limited in Kew which existed into the 1960s, years after the business had gone out of the family.

MABEL JELLIS (b.1905), who married FRANK SHARPE and had four children is mentioned in the World Tree Project: Early Tasmanians**.

... and these are just a few of my relatives...

The listings that will appear in this site is in four stages:

     1. The family of my 7th Great-grandfather, RALF JELLIS of Steppingley
     2. The family of my 3rd Great-grandfather, JOSEPH JELLIS of Flitwick
     3. The family of my Grandfather, HENRY (Jay) JELLIS of Woodford
     4. The family of THOMAS JELLIS of Kew, Melbourne, Australia

In each case, a reference number will indicate a continued line; FIU will indicate that I have no further information for that line. A number in square brackets, e.g. [272], is the database reference number in an, as yet, unpublished graphical Family Tree, created using the software from the Geneology Site MyHeritage.com.

I drew the Family Tree in AutoCAD and I hope to be able to put these drawings in an Adobe form in this site soon, so that you will be able to print them.

My Grandfather, Henry (Jay) Jellis, wrote down his memoires of life in Flitwick, Bedfordshire, during the late 1880s & early 1900s; my Aunt Jo cleverly typed the words, without changing his writing style, to capture the words just as he spoke them. It is now a book entitled:

 "Boyhood Memories of Flitwick, Bedfordshire"

I have reproduced the first two chapters (without permission.... sorry Jo) to put on this site to whet your appetite, hopefully I will be able to give you some information as to where & how to purchase it.(hint! hint! Aunt Jo)

Finally, I would be more than happy if anyone would contact me, through this site or the email address below, to offer additional family links, or indeed, corrections. I have gained much of my information from other family tree sites and hope that this site will be as useful to others.
